BANKING ON THE NET

A computer - without a computer, no Internet! Even an older 486 or 386 computer can suffice although the faster and more powerful your computer, the faster your Internet activities will be.

A modem - a modem is a device that is attached to your computer either externally or internally and which translates your computer's digital information into an analogue format which can then be sent along the telephone line.

A telephone line - Your existing telephone line will probably suffice and you do not need a special line just for your Internet connection.

Software - the most important piece of software that you will need is a Web browser. Today Windows 95/98 includes Internet Explorer software as part of the package and your Internet Service Provider will also normally provide you with the software that you need in order to access the Net.

An Internet Service Provider - the next step is to obtain a connection into the Internet through your telephone line. To do this you require the services of an Internet Service Provider (ISP). Most ISPs provide you with software that automates your connection to the Internet. Click here to learn more about ISPs.
